Wearing a white T-Shirt is easy with Rubens, but properly caring for it can be a little harder. That’s the reason we created a directory on how to care, clean and look after your Rubens, as we care. By following these simple principles. You’ll significantly slow down the natural ageing of luxurious cotton. Actively preserving your Rubens’ wearable life will contribute to a cleaner environment and a healthier planet. Making the most of your Rubens.
Due to the nature of this cotton fabric, you may experience some shrinking after your first wash. With this in thought, we have been slightly generous with each size.. meaning the dimensions of the T-Shirt will not align exactly with our guidelines until post first wash. To ensure the longevity of your Rubens, please wash ideally by hand, or on a low spin in cold water. In addition to reducing the risk of shrinkage, hand-washing the garment alone or with other white fabrics will prevent any unwanted colourisation. This will also help you save on energy bills and water usage. Be sure to use small amounts of detergent to prevent damage to both your Rubens and the environment.
You have made an investment, so be more sustainable by washing your clothing less. This will help reduce your carbon footprint and help the longevity and durability of your Rubens.
Only wash your T-Shirt when it needs to be cleaned and always air dry, either laid flat or hanging it in the shade. These are some of the most important things you can do to prolong the life of your favourite Rubens’ T-Shirt. This will help your Rubens stay fresh and the best it can be.
The risk of shrinkage is significantly diminished by avoiding the tumble dryer. By choosing to air dry your Rubens instead, you’ll mitigate the risk of creasing and unwanted stretching.
A good cleaning process is essential for preserving your Rubens and keeping it looking sharp. Reversing your T-Shirt will preserve it’s richness and will reduce abrasion on the outside of the garment when washing. If you want to iron your Rubens, then use a low heat (one dot) preferably at the temperature of 110°C. Ironing relaxes the cotton fibres making them smoother and softer, in turn reducing the need for further heat when tackling stubborn creasing. However, as we have so much detail incorporated into the design, we strongly advise you do not steam your Rubens – any steaming could cause puckering and damage to the makeup of the T-Shirt.
To prolong the life of your Rubens, how to store it is just as important as how you wash it. Your Rubens should be stored in a cool and dark location, folded flat, T-shirts hung for long periods of time are prone to stretching and becoming misshaped. If you prefer to hang your Rubens, avoid thin wire hangers and use a thick wood hanger as the weight is then evenly distributed. Folding over the hanger like you would with a trouser, or hang from the bottom avoid stretching the neckline.
